Madonie

The territory of the Madonie park comprises the highest peaks in Sicily - except, of course, for Etna. Here there are almost 50% of the flora species on the island and various endemic species of great importance, like the Abies nebrodensis, a relict from the third Ice Age. In the woods there are oak trees, manna elms and chestnut trees and a consistent undergrowth of holly, Asperula and prickly plum plants. Any season is good for visiting this area. In winter the highest tops are covered with snow; in spring all the colours of the Madonie undergrowth explode; in summer you can get away from the heat on the sea level for a while. Landscape and nature offer interesting sights throughout the park you can make a tour around it, including a visit to all the towns and villages in the park itself. Municipalities: Caltavuturo, Castelbuono, Castellana Sicula, Cefalù Collesano, Geraci Siculo, Gratteri, Isnello, Petralia Soprana, Petralia Sottana, Polizzi Generosa, Pollina, San Mauro Castelverde, Scillato, Sclafani Bagni.
