Within the territory of the Madonie lives the Madonie Fir (Abies Nebrodensins) which is the most emblematic endemic species in the Natural Park, affected by real danger of extinction. Its population is made up of just 30 exemplares distributed discontinuously in between 1,400 and 1,600 m asl, between Vallone Madonna degli Angeli, Monte Scalone, Monte dei Pini and Monte Cavallo, in the Municipality of Polizzi Generosa. The loss of this species would be a serious matter and would represent a further diminution of biological diversity in the Mediterranean basin.
In the territory of the Madonie and, especially in Geraci Siculo are several humid environments, called "margi" "urghi" and "triemule. These areas are very important for conservations of Abies pollini, that’s why it has been started a project, that should improve these areas.
There are in this area also rare flowers species such as the ginestra cumpani the Astragolo Nebrodi and La Viola Nebrodi.
Among them the peony, with beautiful red or white flowers in March-June, is present in the mountain plain. Other endemic flower platns are Stipa sicula; The Stellina of Gussone with rare and beautiful for its pink flowers, Astro Sorrentino (Sorrentine Aster), prized specimen of Composite, only recently discovered among Polizzi and Castellana and Petralie.
