Enna is the capital of the correspondent region Enna. About 20.000 people live here. Because of its central position Enna is called the navel of Sicily and because it is located so high it is also called Belvedere sometimes. A very extraordinary sight is the Castello di Lombardia. It is probably the biggest Norman castle on Sicily. Originally, the castle had 20 towers, but only six of them can be seen still today. The platform is a fantastic viewpoint from where you can enjoy a fabulous look on Mount Etna. Another sight is the Torre de Federico II in the municipal park, an octagonal tower of a former castle of Frederick II.
Even at times of the Sicels the town had been a fortified complex and because of its central position it was of great significance.
